Fixing old clothes

It has been a hectic couple of months between health issues and lots of SCA projects. I have changed shape, and recently discovered that a lot of my garb doesn't fit or doesn't fit comfortably. Luckily I saved a lot of my old garb from fifteen or so years ago, so I have been rediscovering old clothes. It's interesting to see how my sewing and construction style has changed over that time too. Needless to say, a lot needs fixing/improving/tweaking. My local group is about to host Coronation, so I have a lot to fix in a short amount of time!

Happy (Belated) New Year 2024

Hello everyone, and a belated Happy New Year to you all.

The festive period seemed to fly by for me; I had lots of medical appointments but other than that I couldn't tell you where the time went. I didn't have my usual pre-pandemic social engagements and yet I seemed to be very busy. Time somehow seems to be going by faster than it should be!

I have been busy pottering with projects, and continuing my routine of doing at least ten minutes of creative time every day. I have had a whole lot of boring mundane stuff (like mending) to do that has eaten up a lot of time but not been very satisfying. I'm daydreaming about exciting new projects but trying to force myself to finish at least some of the current ones and UFOs. I'm just frustratingly slow.

I've also been plodding along with the 'underlayer' portion of the River Haven Clothing Challenge. Hopefully I will have a victory post to share about that very soon.

In other news, we have a new addition to the neighbourhood. At this time of the year (summer in the Southern Hemisphere) we see quite a few moving up and down the street.

Post- Christmas Sewing Projects

Hello everyone and apologies for the delay in posting. The usual post-Christmas flare has meant that I haven't been able to do most of what I wanted to get done. I have had a lot of very boring mending to do as well as mundane sewing, so I haven't had much to report that relates to historical projects - plus internet connectivity has been an issue.

I hope everyone had a pleasant festive season. I received a lovely, thoughtful gift from one of my friends.

The seam ripper has a hand-made wooden handle and was commissioned by a local artisan in Queensland (and has already had quite the work-out).

The yarn is hand spun by my friend. She only taught herself to spin in the last year or so, and I am very impressed. I need to think of a suitable project to showcase it.

Mending and mundane projects

I have been consistently busy over the last couple of weeks with SCA paperwork and little tasks like mending and mundane crafts and sewing. I've also had tonsilitis, a tooth infection and a chest infection over the last month, so not feeling my best or most productive.

I got these nice wooden beads really cheaply at an op shop that was selling new craft materials, and made myself some mundane necklaces which I am pretty happy about.

Mending and Adjustments

Hello friends! I hope this new year is finding you safe and well.

I haven't posted in a while because my illness(es) flared up over Christmas and I have had a hard time getting back to normal. I have not been doing much of craft-related interest except for mending and alterations, and working on the Perpetual Pile of Sleeves.

As you would probably know by know, I loathe a sewing do-over, and that is exactly what mending (and associated activities) feels like, so it is very easy to put the chore off and do more exciting projects. So I have been working to whittle down the list of things waiting to be fixed or adjusted - with varying degrees of success. It does seem like a Magic Pudding type situation, but I am plodding along.

Adjusting a slip

(For those of you who are not familiar, The Magic Pudding is an Australian children's book about - you guessed it - a magic pudding that you cut a piece from and it magically restores itself. Apparently much like my sewing to-do pile.)

The Perpetual Pile of Sleeves is starting to look more manageable, as I have just kept at it; a little bit every day.

Predictably, I have left all the eyelets til the end.
